What is Three Spirit?
Answer: Three Spirit is a Non-Alcoholic Drink from the UK which is made out of plant-based nutrients.
It is claimed to be the ‘future’ of social beverages, leveraging aspects of natural nootropic (brain boosters).
Three Spirit also claim that their products can help both body and mind, and that you can take it before, after and during social situations.
Currently, they have three products:
- Livener – Before the party.
- Nightcap – After the party.
- Social Elixir – During the party.
It’s basically a flavored nootropic stack in liquid form – but it’s an interesting concept that we’ll be looking at in more detail in this review.
Three Spirit Effects
The main effects that Three Spirit is claimed to offer is the effects of alcohol without turning to the booze.
Three Spirit claims that it isn’t an imitation of alocoholic drinks thought. They believe they’re offering something more unique as it doesn’t have the negative effects that accompany an alcoholic beverage.
Instead, Three Spirit is made up of the feel-good nutrients from the nootropic world which can help give you that mood boost and reduced anxiety. Something that many rely on alcohol to do for them.
This may pose as a healthier alternative to booze, and a more socially accepted way to take a nootropic in a social situation. You’re drinking from a fancy bottle, rather than popping some pills – it’s a better look.
Three Spirit Ingredients
Three Spirit have three products, Livener, Social Elixir and Nightcap. Below, we’ll briefly cover them along with their claims and our verdict.
Here is the full ingredient list for each of them:
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Panax Ginseng
- Siberian Ginseng
- Guava Leaf
- Schisandra
- Guayusa
- Pomegranate Molasses
- Hibiscus
- Ginger
- Cayenne Chilli
- Watermelon
- Rosewater
- Green Tea
Below, we’ll give you a brief description of each of these ingredients and what they can do. Our summary for Three Spirit Livener’s ingredients is after that if you want to skip ahead.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Thought to help burn fat, has been seen to not work in numerous cases. May help manage blood glucose to a mild extent. May be mainly for flavor here.
Panax Ginseng
A better option, Panax Ginseng has been seen to help mood and reduce fatigue to some extent. It can also help improve blood flow which could help absorption and effect time.
Siberian Ginseng
Has a small amount of evidence for helping to reduce stress levels, which could tie into the ‘party’ side of Three Spirit.
Guava Leaf
Again, this could be for flavor. Guava has been seen in some cases to help reduce blood pressure and to a degree help with blood glucose.
Schisandra
There are some claims that Schisandra can help to reduce your levels of the stress hormone cortisol and anxiety. It tastes tart which could help Three Spirit’s Livener here.
There’s not a lot of research into Schisandra, so a lot of these claims are anecdote – there are also some claims that it should not be used during pregnancy. Again, there isn’t enough data to verify this – but we would advise that you use caution when taking it if you are expecting.
Guayusa
A herb that is traditionally brewed like a tea. Some claim it works in a similar way to coffee, but with more of the antioxidant benefits. A thing to note is that Guayusa contains high levels of caffeine, which is worth knowing if you’re taking it at night.
Pomegranate Molasses
This is more for flavor, than general cognition and mood support. Pomegranate tastes great and contains numerous antioxidants and vitamins which can help promote overall health.
Hibiscus
Usually used in teas for its sour taste. However, Hibiscus also has some effects in helping to control blood pressure, which could help you to be calm and relaxed.
Ginger
Great for flavor, but ginger can also help ease digestion and decrease feelings of nausea. It’s good to settle the stomach.
Cayenne Chilli
Mainly used in fat burning because of how the chili raises your body heat. Your body responds with a cooling effect which burns more calories than you would do normally.
It may also help to reduce your blood pressure in Three Spirit which could help you to relax more.
Watermelon
Again, this seems more like an ingredient which will dramatically help flavor. Watermelon can also help Three Spirit though by helping to improve blood flow and decreasing blood pressure.
This mainly comes down to an amino acid in the fruit known as L-Citrulline.
Rosewater
There is only preliminary evidence available for rosewater at the moment, but it may have some sedative effects. This may help to make you more relaxed after using Three Spirit.
Green Tea
The final ingredient in Three Spirit’s Livener. Green Tea contains more natural caffeine, but also has the amino acid L-Theanine. L-Theanine can help promote focus and manage caffeine to some degree which can help focus.
Livener contains a range of ingredients which may help to improve your mood and focus. We particularly like the Panax and Siberian Ginseng.
What we don’t like is the fact we couldn’t find any dosages for these ingredients. It appears to be a proprietary blend.
You don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting or how effective it really is overall. This allows Three Spirit to claim all the benefits, but they don’t have to back it up with the right dosages.
There’s also a lot of ingredients in here which has links to lowering blood pressure (Guava, Hibiscus, Chili and Watermelon). If you suffer from low blood pressure, consult with your doctor before using this product.
We’d love to see how much of each ingredient is being used in a bottle. We also think Ashwagandha with it’s anti-stress benefits could help this formula too.
- Lemon Balm
- Melon Hull Hops
- Valerian
Same as before, brief rundown followed by our summary for Three Spirit Night Cap.
Lemon Balm
Traditionally used to promote calmness. Lemon Balm (also known as Melissa Officinalis) is a herb that has been seen to help calmness and reduce anxiety. It’s been seen to help sedation in some cases – which could help with sleep.
Melon Hull Hops
This is more of an aromatic ingredient in Nightcap by ThreeSpirit. Melon Hull Hops have been seen to have a fruity flavor and are used in a range of IPAs for this reason. It could bring some additional zing to this drink.
Valerian
This is another good addition to Nightcap. Valerian contains apigenine which can help to reduce anxiety and promote calmness which can help you to sleep at a faster rate.
There are only three ingredients in Nightcap, and as far as sleep aids go, the Valerian and Lemon Balm have been seen to consistently perform in getting you in the right mindset for sleep.
However, as we’ve mentioned before – the dosages for these ingredients are undisclosed, which means you might not be getting the best supporting dose for maximum effect.
We also think a few things could be added to Nightcap to make it more effective, particularly Tart Montmorency Cherries as these contain a natural level of melatonin, which is your body’s sleep hormone.
- Coconut Vinegar
- Tulsi
- Damiana
- Lion’s Mane Mushroom
- Cacao
- Green Tea
One last time, let’s do the breakdown.
Coconut Vinegar
Good for flavor but can also help in other areas. Coconut vinegar has been seen to help lower blood pressure – which could help you feel more relaxed. It may also help to regulate your blood sugar, which can help your general health to some degree.
Tulsi
Also known as Holy Basil, this is a strange pick in Three Spirit’s Social Elixir. Why? Because it has claims to reduce fertility and improve libido. This may help make more ‘frisky’ in the night – but there’s not a lot of evidence to support these claims.
It’s still under investigation for these effects.
Damiana
Again, another herb that doesn’t have much research on it. Damiana has only been claimed to work anecdotally as an aphrodisiac. The only time it has demonstrated a mild effect is when it is used on fatigued rats.
More research is needed into it.
Lion’s Mane Mushroom
This is a great addition to the Social Elixir from Three Spirit. Supplying the active nootropic hericenones and erinacines – Lion’s Mane may to promote cognition.
Research showed those taking a clinical dose of Lion’s Mane noticed a significant improvement in cognition which stopped after they ceased supplementing it.
Cacao
Good for blood flow, good for brain flow. Cacao can help improve your circulation which could help to improve cognition by supplying more oxygen and nutrients to your brain via your blood.
Green Tea
This is more of a fat burner in social elixir, but it can offer some benefit in here. As we’ve mentioned in Livener, it contains a degree of caffeine and L-Theanine which can help to promote energy and focus.
Overall, this drink has some advantages when it comes to cutting loose and raising your cognition, but we find the libido enhancing aspects of some of the herbs here really weird.
Damiana and Tulsi both have claims to enhance libido. We’re not sure if this is the intention of Three Spirit. We think for mood enhancing and reducing anxiety Rhodiola Rosea would be a good addition to this stack.
Does Three Spirit Work?
Answer: It’s unclear. Although there are some good ingredients across the board for all Three Spirit products, there could be potential for a placebo effect.
We say this because a lot of the dosages in Three Spirit’s products are hidden. We don’t know the full extent of what you’re getting with each ingredient, so that makes it harder to know how effective it is overall.
You should also speak to your doctor before using Three Spirit if you have a history of low blood pressure. Livener and Social Elixir both contain ingredients with links to lowering blood pressure.
Three Spirit Where to Buy?
Answer: Numerous stockists such as bars, restaurants, comedy clubs and more currently sell Three Spirit throughout the UK. The full details are available on their website via a useful map locator.
However, if you’re asking “Where can I buy Three Spirit online?” you can still purchase Three Spirit from their website for the following prices:
- Livener: £24.99
- Social Elixir: £24.99
- Nightcap: £24.99
- All Three: £60.00
That does not include postage and packaging. If you buy 5 bottles, Three Spirit will actually include a 6th for free.
Although each order only provides you with one 500 ml bottle of Three Spirit, it’s recommended that you break them up into 50 ml servings.
To our knowledge, Three Spirit is not available on Amazon.
Three Spirit Drink Reviews | Should You Buy It?
Three Spirit is one of the most interesting forms of nootropics that we’ve seen. Instead of taking the standard supplement approach, it appears to have gone after the social beverage market.
It’s a steep price tag for what is essentially a range of anti-anxiety, calm-inducing and blood pressure lowering nutrients. However, no one else is doing this.
If you want to go on a night out and not feel as left out as the designated driver, or non-drinker, this may be worth a try if you’re comfortable spending £25.00 a bottle.
However, if you want to fight anxiety and boost cognition, we’d suggest building your own nootropic stack.
