This is our full write up.
Sergeant Steel: The Ingredients
If you’ve already been looking at this supplement, you’ll be aware of the huge amount of ingredients in it.
Some of these ingredients are absolutely great for testosterone, others however, not so much.
Below, we look at the majority of ingredients in Sergeant Steel along with our summary and suggestions on how to improve it.
This is what we’ve found:
Vitamin D
This is a nice addition to Sergeant Steel, and a great one for boosting testosterone levels.
It’s technically a hormone, and having it in here is a really good move.
We say this because most people don’t get enough Vitamin D3 throughout the day. This is mainly due to modern living. You absorb D3 through the sun’s rays, by spending most of our time indoors you’re unlikely to get the optimum amount to boost testosterone.
Studies show that supplementing over 3000 IU of D3 long term is very effective for raising testosterone levels. Although the dosage in Sergeant Steel isn’t as high as we would like it to be, it still should offer some support here.
Magnesium
This is a good supporting ingredient for free testosterone in Sergeant Steel.
Free testosterone is the T that is readily available and always circulating in your body. The problem is that a protein in your blood known as Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG), reduces the overall amount. It does this by binding to the free testosterone and stripping it of it’s anabolic potency – making it useless.
Magnesium helps by inhibiting the SHBG and reducing its overall influence, this allows more testosterone to flow freely throughout your system.
Zinc
This is another good addition to Sergeant Steel and an effective mineral for boosting testosterone.
Zinc is a mineral which is used for chemical reactions in your brain which can help create the Luteinizing Hormone (LH).
LH is your body’s precursor to both growth hormone and testosterone. The more of it you have in your system, the more support these hormones have to grow.
D-Aspartic Acid
Another effective addition to Sergeant Steel that works in a similar way to Zinc.
D-Aspartic Acid is another nutrient that your body can use for the chemical reactions that help to create LH.
Again, as we’ve already mentioned, the more LH in your system, the more support your testosterone levels have to rise.
Ashwagandha
Another effective addition to Sergeant Steel. Ashwagandha is a herb which can help increase testosterone levels.
But how does it work?
The herb can help to control and regulate your levels of the stress hormone cortisol. When your stress levels are high, your cortisol level rises. This creates a hormonal imbalance that your body fixes by lowering your testosterone – this process is known as homeostasis.
By using Ashwagandha, you can help keep your cortisol levels under tighter control which can create a better environment for your testosterone levels to rise in.
Mucuna Pruriens
Also known as Velvet Bean – this is another effective ingredient in Sergeant Steel.
Mucuna Pruriens contain L-DOPA which can help raise your levels of the Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). GnRH can work as a precursor in your body to LH – which can boost your testosterone and growth hormone levels.
It’s another method of boosting your LH and giving your testosterone additional support.
Nettle
This is an ingredient that can also help with free testosterone levels like Magnesium.
In a similar fashion, the Beta-Sitosterol in the nettle can help to inhibit your SHBG which can reduce it’s overall influence on your free T.
This allows more testosterone to flow freely through your system without having their anabolic potency diminished.
Fenugreek
Another effective nutrient in Sergeant Steel which can help give you a better hormonal balance in favor of testosterone.
Fenugreek can help by regulating your blood sugar, and by extension, your body’s levels of insulin.
In a similar way to cortisol, high levels of insulin can also cause low testosterone. By using something like Fenugreek to help attain a better balance, your testosterone has more support in a better hormonal environment.
Shilajit
This is a traditional collection of minerals in Sergeant Steel.
There is ongoing debate as to whether or not this helps testosterone – but the majority of thought seem to claim it has more of a placebo effect than an actual boost in the hormone.
There’s not enough clinical evidence at the moment to know whether or not it works. We don’t think it does.
Eurycoma Longifolia
Also known as Longjack, or Tongkat Ali. Eurycoma Longifolia is another herb which has had claims for raising testosterone.
Unfortunately the only time it has been seen to work is in animal studies – the same results have not scaled up for human testing.
You’re unlikely to see any testosterone gains from using this ingredient. At most you may get some mild boost in libido.
DHAA
This is a component that you usually find in fish. It is thought to work as an aromatase inhibitor – which essentially means estrogen blocker.
The idea is that it can inhibit the aromatase enzyme which produces estrogen, allowing your testosterone to have more of an impact.
At the moment, this is only a claim, there is no evidence to show that it actually works this way.
Tribulus
We’re surprised that this ingredient is in Sergeant Steel – mainly because there are plenty of good choices in here. Because the studies for Tribulus are very disappointing.
You typically see Tribulus Terrestris in the weaker testosterone blends. Mainly because it has a lot of marketing hype behind it.
Studies only show Tribulus raising testosterone in one case, where the subject had very low testosterone and was infertile. It has not been seen to work in average everyday cases.
You’re unlikely to get much of it here aside from a minor boost in sex drive and libido.
Maca
This isn’t a testosterone booster in Sergeant Steel. Maca is more a ‘male health’ nutrient.
By that we mean that it has been seen to help with low sperm count and libido.
It doesn’t support higher testosterone levels, but it could do some good for fertility.
Boron
A slightly better option in Sergeant Steel. Boron is a mineral which has been seen in studies to help testosterone and even reduce estrogen levels.
Supplementing small amounts of this mineral may help boost your levels of the male hormone and even deplete the amount of the female hormone.
It’s good to see in Sergeant Steel.
Black Pepper
The final ingredient in Sergeant Steel – it’s not a testosterone booster.
Black pepper is more of a support to the whole supplement. Taking black pepper can help improve overall nutrient absorption.
This can help you to get more out of the ingredients in Sergeant Steel and allow it to absorb into your body at a faster rate.

Ingredient Profile Overview: Sergeant Steel
There’s no denying that there are plenty of good ingredients here.
Our highlights are the D3, Zinc, DAA, Ashwagandha, and Mucuna Pruriens.
Although some of the other ingredients in here do have some effect on testosterone – there’s a lot of wastage in this supplement. For example, the D3 could be beefed up a lot from 1500 IU to 3300 IU. The same can be said for other hard hitters in this supplement.
The gratuitous amount of ingredients in here have reduced the overall effects of the main ingredients.
We believe the following could be cut from Sergeant Steel:
- Shilajit
- Eurycoma Longifolia
- Dehydroabietic Acid (DHAA)
- Tribulus
- Maca
That’s 5 ingredients you don’t even need in this supplement. They’d be better off beefing up other areas in this supplement.
There’s a lot of improvements that could be made here.

Are there any side effects to Sergeant Steel?
Although it does have a lot of ingredients, we haven’t come across any cases of this supplement causing side effects.
The ingredients seem to be at safe dosages and shouldn’t cause you any harm.
That said, if you have any concerns, preexisting conditions or allergies, you can always speak to your doctor before using it.
Sergeant Steel Review Summary
On the whole, Assault Labs are definitely on the right track with Sergeant Steel – but it seems to us that they have overreached.
The main issue is that they are putting too many ingredients in this supplement for the truly effective additions to shine.
Our advice is that in this case, less is more. By removing many of the ineffective ingredients they can provide more power to the more effective ones, and make this a testosterone booster worth using.
As for now, we still think some revisions need to be done.
