Lumonol, LumUltra, whatever you want to call it – this nootropic has been around for years. In our review we find that it stands up to the test of time with most of the ingredients in it – but maybe not with the dosages.
A lot of Lumonol’s main dosages have been hidden by a proprietary blend – and as a personal preference, we’re not huge fans of caffeine in nootropics. You can read the full story below.
If you want to see what I’m using at the moment, you can that out here.
This is our Lumonol review, a nootropic from Avanse Nutraceuticals.
It is one of the most popular nootropics out there, with claims to promote:
And numerous other mental benefits. But how well it work for you? In this Lumonol review, we look closer at this brain pill to see how effective it really is, along with what you should know about it.

Lumonol VS LumUltra
LumUltra is Lumonol. If you’re wondering what the difference is between LumUltra and Lumonol, there isn’t any. It’s the same product undergoing a rebrand.
However, many still refer to it as Lumonol (as do we). The main reason for the brand is that Lumonol have now launched a range of different Lumonol products.
Brain Pills by Lumonol
- Lumonol Wisdom – Nootropic for older customers.
- Lumonol Nova – Nootropic and Pre Workout.
- Lumonol Luna – Natural Sleep Aid.
- Lumonol Brainn Oil – DHA/EPA Omega-3 Fish Oil.
- Lumonol Prep – Focus Supplement for Children (seriously).
- Lumonol Game On – Nootropic for competitive gamers.
- LumUltra Hemp Force – Hemp based nootropic.
- LumUltra Zen – Stress reducer and mood booster.
- Lumonol Smart Drink – Liquid based nootropic.
That’s a lot of supplements in the Lumonol range. We’re not covering them in this review though – that may be for another time.
However, in this Lumonol review, we’ll just be looking at LumUltra.
How to take Lumonol
Take 2 capsules daily with a meal. It is recommended that you do not take more than 4 over a 24 hour period.
Lumonol Ingredients List
- Focus Blend – 515 mg
- Acetyl L-Carnitine
- Energy Blend – 430 mg
- Panax Ginseng
- Memory Blend – 170 mg
- Ginkgo Biloba
- Alpha GPC
It’s all in proprietary blends, which isn’t a good sign. A proprietary blend is when a supplement manufacturer chooses to hide the individual dosages in their supplement. Instead, they group them all together under bigger larger dosages.
This means you don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting in Lumonol or how effective it may be overall.
Let’s look at them in more detail:
Phosphatidylserine is a great start to Lumonol.
It’s an amino acid which has been linked to offering numerous congitive benefits.
Studies show it has the potential to help overall cognition, reduce cognitive decline, lessen fatigue and the stress hormone cortisol and even improve your attention.
It works so well because it is vital to cognitive function. There’s a lot of phosphatidylserine already in your brain, this can help top up your numbers. As an added benefit Phosphatidylserine is also fat-soluable which makes it great for getting into your system quickly when taking Lumonol.
- Acetyl L-Carnitine
This is a good option in theory for the Lumonol formula – however, we have some issues with the dosage.
Studies show that for the best results you need to be taking 500 – 2500 mg of L-Carnitine a day.
This can help to raise your energy levels, your metabolism, and even your focus.
It’s great to have on board in Lumonol, but being a proprietary blend makes it hard to judge just how effective it is going to be.
Another good amino acid in Lumonol, but again, it’s a shame about the dosages.
L-Tyrosine is an anti-stress amino acid in this nootropic. It can help reduce your overall levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which can help improve your overall concentration.
However, without knowing how much you’re getting in Lumonol, it makes it difficult to gauge how effective it really is.
Also known as N-phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester. It is mainly used as a neuroprotecitve aid, which can help reduce cognitive decline.
This is the main reason it is being used in Lumonol, from it’s abilities to help protect your brain. However, there is only one study out there which shows it to be effective – which demonstrates it to help with recovery from cerebral trauma.
Good for head injuries, but for helping reduce cognitive decline it may need more studies on it.
- Panax Ginseng
This is more of a supporting element in Lumonol (LumUltra). Panax Ginseng has mainly been seen to help promote blood flow and nitric oxide levels.
This can help get more blood to your brain and help you absorb nutrients faster, but it may not do much when it comes to actually helping your cognition.
A stimulant which you usually find in fat burners. So, why is it used in Lumonol? For the energy boost it may give you.
More evidence is needed to see how effective it really is, but has been claimed to give adrenaline like effects – which could make it a pretty strong stimulant.
The only problem here is that you risk the potential stimulant side effects that follow nutrients like this around – which are never a good mix with nootropics.
Another big stimulant in this energy blend by Lumonol, Guarana contains a good amount of caffeine, which may not be a good thing.
This will give you an energy boost, but caffeine can lead to side effects such as energy crashes, once the main effects have worn off.
Energy crashes can be a big problem when you’re trying to boost your cognition as they can break your productivity.
- Ginkgo Biloba
A less proven ingredient in Lumonol. There are many claims that Gingko Biloba may help to promote cognition, however, there are studies which go both for and against this.
In some cases, Gingko has been seen to help raise overall cognition in subjects, however in other cases it has had no effect at all.
Some researchers are starting to think that the effects of Ginkgo may be more placebo than actually effective. More research is needed into it.
- Alpha GPC
This is more often used in pre workouts, than it is in a nootropic like Lumonol.
Alpha GPC is mainly used to promote power output, which could help you in the gym, but it has been seen in some cases to help reduce cognitive decline.
Lumonol Side Effects
- Rapid Heart Rate
- Higher Blood Pressure
- Other stimulant related problems
Although unlikely, these are the potential side effects you face when using Lumonol.
It’s mainly due to the Hordenine and Guarana in this nootropic. They’re both stimulants and have links to causing side effects when taken in high amounts.
However, as these are smaller proprietary blends, this is not likely to happen. Although if you do have a sensitivity to caffeine or stimulants you should be careful using this supplement.
If you have any concerns with using Lumonol, you should speak to your doctor or a medical professional before using this nootropic.
Lumonol Free Trial
Lumonol no longer offer a free trial of Lumonol / LumUltra.
They used to many years ago, but they have edged away from it. We can see why, numerous products that offer free trials are typically surrounded by scams.
They give you the free trail, under the guise that you should cancel once the trial is over. However, if you don’t they continuously re-bill you at a much higher price.
Lumonol does offer a subscription based ordering system, but it’s not misleading as the free trial – you know what you’re getting into from the start.
Lumonol Reviews Reddit
We have yet to find a comprehensive Lumonol review on reddit. This nootropic is only mentioned a handful of times on Reddit – and with not much to say about it.
They mainly talk about how it compares to Lumonol competitor Optimind – but the tone usually shifts to people voicing negative opinions about Optimind in general rather than discussing Lumonol.
The only real comment we’ve seen on Lumonol is that someone tried it for a few months, and felt it worked for them, but had suspicions it could be placebo and now they concentrate on a mainly caffeine / L-Theanine stack.
If there’s any further development on Lumonol on reddit we will let you know.
Interestingly, a lot of the Lumonol brand is available on Amazon, but not the original Lumonol, which is now referred to as LumUltra.
You can only get the newer versions of Lumonol like Wisdom and Nova over on the Amazon website.
There are several memory supplements available from Walmart, but Lumonol is not one of them.
The only place it appears where you can buy the original Lumonol (LumUltra) is on their official website.
Lumonol / LumUltra Reviews
As you can see, this isn’t the best nootropic that we have come across on the market.
The main problem is the proprietary blends. Although there are some good ingredients, pretty much everything in the Focus Blend are great ingredients; the Phosphatidylserine, L-Tyrosine, L-Carnitine and the Noopept all have good studies on them – the main question is the dosage.
If you don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting, it’s hard to judge just how effective this nootropic really is.
There’s also a problem (for us) with the caffeine in this nootropic, specifically from the Guarana. The caffeine content in Lumonol can lead to energy crashes which could diminish cognition and productivity later in the day.
We just think it would be better if there was more transparency with the ingredients and that the stimulants were removed from this nootropic.
